My Watermark
In class we were given the assignment to write a story that changed our life or had a great impact on us.So I decided to write about how I started saying poetry in front of huge audiences. Now I'll Leave you to enjoy your story.
My Way To Success
It all started in 2008 when my friends and I were practicing a play for school. We were all working when one of our community leaders came up to us. What he wanted us to do is do this play in camp.So you are probably wondering what camp is. You see, the Masjid (or Mosque) in our community hosts a family camp each year. On the day of camp different families and friends meet up in places to travel together . Since the camp is on the mountain, the road is dangerous and we need to stay together. Sometimes it snows and other times it rains. At night we make s’mores around the camp fire. My friends and I pass the time by going to the lake or visiting each other in our cabins . The food there is also very good and we have 3 meals a day. They also have programs for all ages and lectures for adults. They also have an entertainment night. So all in all we have tons of fun. So yea ,that’s where the leader wanted us to do the play. So we accepted . At first I was nervous considering the fact that I was only 7,but my friends and family encouraged me a lot. I mean without them, I don’t think I would’ve had the courage to face that huge audience. So we faced our fears and did it. It was great except for one thing. We were doing The Tourtoise and the Hare but our hare hadn’t come to camp.So we needed another hare .My brother loved this play so he had memorized all the parts . Because of that, everybody wanted him to do it. Well everybody other than me since he was only four. I still went along with it any way. Well guess what. My brother got frozen with fear .He just stood there the whole time. But in spite of this the people liked it. So I guess that opened the door for me but I changed to poetry .ANd poetry was a lot more fun .So year ,after year ,after year, I said poems in camp. Sometimes they would be from the internet but the last few times my mom would write them. Most of the time this is what I get after getting off stage: Me: (gets off stage) “Oh my god that was so good.”My mom’s friend told me. “Thank you. I said. “Wow how did you memorize that?” asked my friend “ It’s really not that hard you just gotta put your head into it.” I said. “That was spectacular can we put you on youtube?” said a random person. But my parents’ answer is always “ No we’re sorry we don’t want her on youtube.”and my reply is “WHY???”. Most-well all of my poems are about what is happening in the Arab world. About what the leaders told the children when they were young . How they should hold on to each other for united we stand divided we fall.About how they should trust each other. But as they grew up, these words turned into swords and stabbed them. These words were all lies. People started fighting each other.Families and friends were separated because of war.And it was like cancer. One country started the rest followed. There was no stopping it once it started. All the missiles and gunshots that shake the grounds of the neighboring countries .How kids are being left orphans and homeless or how women are left widows. BECAUSE OF WHO?? Because of someone who was a trusted person in their eyes once. But no,he decides to betray them because of a few words said by innocent children. But we will have to fight for our rights and freedom, because we believe that all our countries are like a body ,if one part is injured the rest of the body works to help it. So until this day ,I recite poems in camp. I was, I am, and I will always stand up for our countries no matter what obstacles stand in my way.For seven years this has been the most thing I look forward to each year and I always will. Thank you to all of those who supported me. |
